Most people think of osteopaths as ‘back specialists’ and although I treat a lot of patients with back pain, osteopathy is more versatile than that.  I treat all kinds of muscle pain such as neck pain and joint pain such as arthritis pain.

Osteopathy does not target symptoms but treats the parts of the body that have caused the symptoms. It’s a holistic approach because your whole body will work well if it’s in good structural balance.

Essex Osteopathy uses touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of the joints, relieve muscle tension, enhance the blood and nerve supply to the tissues and help the body’s own healing mechanism.

A gentle pain-free treatment with a broad approach, osteopathy focuses on each patient’s precise needs and is appropriate for all: from the elderly to the newborn, from pregnant women to sports people.  I also offer the most gentle treatments of cranial osteopathy and  craniosacral therapy.

Restriction of movement in one part of the body can lead other parts of the body to compensate and so become stiff and sore.  I may work on parts of the body that don’t hurt in order to improve the mechanics of the whole body.  I may suggest exercises to do at home or give advice on posture.  Your treatment may also include a gait analysis to determine if your way of moving is causing the strain. I may even advise changes in lifestyle to prevent further injury such as manual handling, exercise and diet.

“After seeing the positive results my husband had with his back after visiting Jo, I decided that I would see if she could help with some neck pain that I’d been experiencing. The combination of treatments and techniques that Jo has used to ease my neck and shoulder, together with advice on exercises to help between sessions, has really improved my symptoms and I am no longer in constant pain. I have always felt safe to visit Jo during COVID due to the safety measures they have put in place at Nature’s Medicine. I would highly recommend Jo.”

“Before I visited Jo, I had severe lower back pain. I was barely able to get in and out of my car and bed. Jo took the time to thoroughly assess my pain and its origin then set to work to restore my posture and rid me of the issues I was having. After a few sessions and some sound aftercare advice, I’m fully recovered and have Jo to thank for that.”

Highly recommended.”
